Open day had many visitors (05.10.2011)
About 200-300 visitors came to Lista Bird Observatory last Sunday to participate in the open day. Together with the local division of the Norwegian Ornithological Society, we organized this event to mark the autumn migration of birds and EuroBirdwatch 2011. Bird ringing was demonstrated, we had a bird quiz and invited visitors to do bird watching together with knowledgeable ornithologists.

A total of 48 Tengmalm's owls and 3 pygmy owls were ringed on Friday night.

Grey-necked bunting at Lista - a new species for Norway! (12.08.2011)
The grey-necked bunting is a new species for Norway, and has only been observed 4-5 times previously in Northern Europe. It was first seen at Lista on Gunnarsmyra next to the bird observatory on the 10th of August, and is a great sensation for birders in Norway. Many will travel long distances to see the bird and take part in this rare experience.

The two-barred crossbills are here again (03.08.2011)
The Lista lighthouse area is invaded by two-barred crossbills again. The first ones showed up toward the end of July, and per August 3rd, we have estimated that there are a few tens of individuals in the plantation. It is nine years since the last invasion.

Live updates from the ringing room (22.07.2011)
Follow the ringing directly as birds get registered. In addition to seeing which birds are ringed here and now, you can also look at the numbers for other days, and how the different species are doing compared to the previous 20 years. The system updates every ten minutes. Take me there!

Autumn season has started (18.07.2011)
The bird observatory opened again on July 15th, and in total 190 birds were ringed on the first day of autumn season. During the second day, 94 birds were caught in the mist nets. Willow warblers topped the ringing numbers with a total of 53 for the first day, and 15 on the second day. Chaffinches hold a good second place with a total of 44 individuals ringed on the first two days.
