The Eurasian Jay lives in the southern part of Norway. It is also somewhat spread northwards all the way up to the part of Finnmark in areas covered by mixed forest. This species is mainly a resident bird that only roams a little outside its fixed territory. In some years, however, it can behave like a regular migratory bird.
At Lista lighthouse it is an irruptive species which some years can be seen in large numbers, depending on the availability of food. The figures below show updated data from the bird station:
