The Common Redstart breeds throughout Europe to Central Asia. In Norway it is found all over the country. This species spends the winter in sub-Saharan Africa and returns to Norway in April-May.

The number of Common Redstart at the lighthouse area can vary quite a lot from year to year, although it is a common species in the standardized ringing. The figures below show updated data from the bird station:
