In Norway, the Starling usually breeds over most of the country, except in the high mountains and clean forest areas. The breeding bird censuses indicate a 2% of average annual decline, leading to a 17% decline in 10 years (Kålås et al. 2014). The species is classified in the red list category "near endangered".

The Starling shows a lower number of individuals now in the bird station area than it did in the 90s. The figures below show updated data from the bird station:
